Fatman here and I’m back with another Best and Worse. Sorry for the delay on this. There were a few reasons. First, I had plans Friday and didn’t watch this live. Second, it’s football season so all day Saturday and Sunday, my ass is in my recliner watching at least two games at a time. Lastly, I wanted to wait until we got our new and improved website to go live so I can post the articles on here! So let’s get started with the Best and Worse for the 9/23/22 WWE Smackdown from the Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah!
BEST: ACKNOWLEDGE SAMI
Smackdown opens with The Bloodline coming out and Paul Heyman being his great self by calling people from Salt Lake City “Salt Lake Citiots” and mentioning that Cardiff, Wales wasn’t Drew McIntyre’s home turf but all of Earth is Roman Reigns’ home turf. He also says that it was “The Elders” who sent Solo to them but now Solo works for Roman. Since Drew has “another bridge to cross”, they brag about the Usos dominance. Roman makes Solo acknowledge him (which is does). Then Sami has something to say but Roman shuts him down and tells him to take off the Bloodline shirt. Jey rips it off. Roman tells him he never wants to see him in that shirt again…because he has a new on for him that says “Honorary Uso”. Jey looks pissed and Sami even hugs Roman! Great and simple stuff to advance the story.
WORST: LIV MORGAN GOES EXTREME!!!
Liv has an ok match (for a house show) with Lacey Evans who says that Liv can’t go extreme. So after Liv beats her (in a normal match), Liv beats the shit out of her with a kendo stick and senton bomb’s her threw a table. I’m afraid for the next two weeks, Liv with “go extreme” just to get murdered by Ronda Rousey at Extreme Rules.
WORST: THREE DUMB SEGMENTS TO SET UP A SQUASH MATCH
Hit Row is hosting a “VIP Party” to watch a weekly TV show (?) that somehow Drew Gulak is invited too and they do three (3) damn segments for Los Lotharios to “crash it”, hit on B-Fab, and superkick Top Dolla (who 100% NO SOLD THE FUCK OUT OF IT) to set up a match that Los Lotharios has ZERO chance of winning. COOL.
BEST: SAMI THE OBNOXIOUS, THE UNBEARABLE, THE VEGAN
Sami is yelling at a guy because he asked for a vegan meal. Madcap Moss & Ricochet show up and call Sami even more obnoxious and unbearable since being with the Bloodline. Solo attacks Madcap and Ricochet. It puts over Solo as the “enforcer” of the Bloodline. This sets up a tag team match (PLAYA) for the next week. The difference between this and the Hit Row fuckery is that this took like 1 minute and it effective set up a match (where the Bloodline should win) that will have a purpose to put Solo over in a big way over two decent to great midcarders as oppose to wasting TV time to set up a useless match between a meh team and a jobber team.
WORST: MININUM MALE MODLES
MMM kind of dominate Xavier Woods then they pose for pics and get hit with the ROLL UP OF DEATH after 3 minutes. After the match, Max Dupri yells at the models for…being models (?). At least it will lead to Max Dupri’s transformation back to LA Knight. Soooo positives right?
BEST: WHEN MONSTERS COLLIDE
Strowman v. Otis was great! Surprisingly great! These two hit big move after big move and it worked so well. The both made each other look great. That’s the best you can do. Strowman winning wasn’t a shock.
BEST: STRAPING THE FIREBALL (?)
Drew McIntrye comes down with a strap and challenges Karrion Kross to a Strap match at Extreme Rules. Scarlett comes down to distract Drew (She can distract me anytime if you know what I mean!) so Kross can attack from behind. They brawl and then Scarlett throws a fireball at Drew’s head that completely misses! But I’m still giving it a Best because they didn’t panic and still ended up with an effective segment with the ending that they wanted with Kross on top.
WORST: SLEAZY’S DAUGHTER “SAVES” THE DAY
Dakota Kai v. Raquel Rodriguez was nothing. It went two minutes and ended in another ROLLUP OF DEATH on this show. Damage Control attacks Rodriguez and Sleazy’s real life fake daughter Shoti shows up and…. does nothing. Like she goes to “fight” IO SKY and she just sort of fakes pull her hair and “throws” her out of the ring. Sleazy would have done a better job and he gets winded sitting down.
BEST: TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP
This match was absolutely awesome but are you really surprised? The Usos can’t do no wrong, Butch is so underrated, and Ridge Holland is…there. The ending set up the Intercontinental Title match in two weeks with Imperium attacking Sheamus. The Usos winning was the right call. I honestly don’t see a team on the roster beating them anytime soon.
So that’s my Best and Worst from the 9/23/22 episode of WWE Smackdown.
