Fatman here with another LIKED and DISLIKED of AEW Dynamite. This show is Dynamite’s third anniversary show. Let’s see what I liked and disliked for the 10/5/22 AEW Dynamite from the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Washington D.C.
BEFORE I START: I need to say that this show didn’t feel like a big show. They hyped this up as a big deal when it was just an extended version of their weekly show. 3 years ago, AEW was in the same city and drew over 14,000 fans to the Capital One Arena. This show drew around 2,000 (I think I’m being generous on that number) to an arena that holds 4,500. That’s an 86% DROP in attendance in 3 years time!! That’s shocking!! I think it’s safe to say that the novelty has worn off of AEW.
DISLIKED: WELL, AT LEAST AEW IS CONSTANT IN THEIR NONSENSICAL BOOKING OF MJF
I….um…UGH. MJF v. Wheeler Yuta was…not what I expected. It wasn’t bad but something was missing from it. MJF gets the submission win. After the match, Yuta yells at MFJ to shake his hand? When MJF was about to do it (??), Lee Moriarty attacks Yuta from behind. MJF tells Moriarty that he didn’t tell him to do that (???). Stockely Hathaway tells MJF to hit Yuta with the Dynamite Diamond Ring. MJF reluctantly puts it on , William Regal shows us with brass knuckles, and MJF leaves. SOOOOO MANY QUESTIONS!! Why would Yuta want to shake MJF’s hand? Why would MJF want too? Why wouldn’t MJF want Moriarty to attack Yuta from behind since he has been doing it for WEEKS? Why is MJF conflicted on hitting Yuta with the ring? NOTHING MAKES SENSE HERE!! STOP THE BULLSHIT!!
DISLIKED: DISTRACTION
Jay Lethal works on Darby Allin’s knee the whole match and puts on the figure four. Allin gets to the ropes. Satnam Singh and Sonjay Dutt come down and distract…Lethal? Allin applied the Last Supper for the win. I…don’t get it. Then Lethal does to Code of Honor with Allin. You are lacking strong heels so lets turn Lethal face and teasing a MJF face turn in the first two matches. WHY? STOP THE BULLSHIT!!!
LIKED(?) & DISLIKED: THE POWER MOVES
I think I liked the TNT Championship match between Wardlow and Brian Cage. I’m just not sure. There was nothing wrong with it and it didn’t embarrass either guy. So that’s a plus I guess. I disliked the post match where Gates of Agony beat down Wardlow which causes Samoa Joe and FTR to come down and even the odds. The reason why I disliked it? THIS is how you get FTR on the show? They haven’t had a tag match together on Dynamite since May!!! This is your third anniversary show and it’s a disservice to them to NOT have a match on this show!!
LIKED & DISLIKED: I GUESS SARAYA IS THE ONLY FEMALE THAT MATTERS
The trios women’s match was just like everything else on this show. It wasn’t bad for what it was. Willow Nightingale gets a much needed win but it’s immediately forgotten when Saraya and Britt Baker get into it and Saraya beats down Rebel and yells “THIS IS MY HOUSE”. Is it though? At least they had Willow do an interview later to set up a TBS Championship match against Jade Cargill at Battle of the Belts. Speaking of which…
DISLIKED: THROWAWAY SHOW
Battle of the Belts is a fucking joke!! The matches are…
ROH Tag Team Championship: FTR v. Gates of Agony
TBS Championship: Jade Cargill v. Willow Nightingale
AEW All-Atlantic Championship: PAC v. Trent Beretta
Does anyone think there will do a title change? NO WAY JAY BRISCOE IS WINNING THE ROH WORLD TITLE. They need to do better in building up these show to make them feel important.
DISLIKED: CUTTING MY HEAD OFF
The National Scissoring Day segment was…TURRIBLE. Nothing was funny. Nothing was entertaining. This went on for WAY TOO LONG for a segment where nothing happened. Swerve comes down to challenge Billy Gunn to a match next week. Smart Mark Sterling comes down to…get hit? This didn’t do any favors for the Acclaimed since they couldn’t hold the segment up.
LIKED & DISLIKED: “STUPID SHIT”
Rush v. Adam Page wasn’t bad for what it was. Page gets the predictable win. Private Party comes down but before they can do anything, Moxley comes down. Moxley cuts a good promo on how this match was 3 years coming and that they have been circling each other. Page says if he has been waiting 3 year, why wait 13 more days. Mox says that Page is a “sweet kid” but like all the kids, he just said stupid shit that gets him in trouble. Mox says that he is only giving Page a warning and not a beat down. Mox’s promos have been hit or miss and this one was both. The first part was great. But Page does have a point, why wait? To me (since this is MY article), it did the opposite of that the promo was attended to do. It made Mox kind of look like a bitch rather than the badass that they are trying to portray to be. He backed down from a challenge which is isn’t what Mox has done lately.
LIKED: FINALLY A STORY THAT HAS BEEN CONSISTENT
Luchasaurus gets a squash win over Fuego Del Sol. Jungle Boy comes down and hits Saurus with a chair and challenges Saurus to a match. These segments have been really short but super effective on building this feud up and moving it along in a coherent matter.
LIKED: ROH ROH ROH
Bryan Danielson & Daniel Garcia v. Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara…wasn’t bad for what it was (Theme of this show). Sammy pinning Garcia after Jericho hit Garcia with the ROH Title was (I hate saying this) the right booking. It furthers the (idiotic) “Pro Wrestler v. Sports Entertainer” storyline in a matter that makes sense. I guess even a blind squirrel can find an acorn every once in a while.
That’s my LIKED and DISLIKED for AEW Dynamite. If you agree or disagree, please leave a comment.
